A Mumble Brag?

Is a humble brag about your mum a mumble brag?

If so, here's a mumble brag...

2020 marked the bicentennial of the Royal Astronomical Society. To commemorate the occasion the society embarked on a project to make a commemorative quilt.

"200 years ago it was not uncommon for family and community members to come together to stitch quilts, often as a way of marking an important life event. Inspired by the communal and social aspect of the quilting tradition, the RAS is looking for participants to help create a bicentennial quilt."

One side of the quilt was a group-stiched embroidered depiction of the solar system. The other side a compilation of 100 squares.

My mum answered the call for people to create individual squares for the patchwork side of the quilt and created the one below "the solar magnetic field in the ecliptic plane".

The solar magnetic field in the ecliptic plane

Her inspiration was my dad's work. He spent most of his career as an astrophysicist, studying solar flares.

"It was an adaptation of an embroidery design which I copied from one of my husband's papers, published in Solar Physics, volume 20, 1971. Since I made it, it has always (over 45 years) hung in our dining room!"

You can see all the other squares here: https://lnkd.in/gtdriKdQ And some below.
